Hillsborough’s school board approved a 55-year lease with Westbury Commons LTD for employee housing on unused land at McLane Middle School in Brandon, FOX 13 reported October 8. The proposal covers six acres and 100–150 units.
Teachers, bus drivers and custodians are among the workers the development is intended to serve. The district would retain ownership of the land, while Westbury Commons would handle construction and daily management, according to the report.
FOX 13 described plans for a clubhouse and pool. Board member Jessica Vaughn cast the lone opposing vote, saying employees need affordable housing but expressing concern about the pace of the proposal.
