Tampa's First Family Vibes Baby Expo Brings 4,000+ Parents Downtown This Weekend

Tampa's first Family Vibes Baby Expo opens this weekend at the Tampa Convention Center, and organizers are expecting between 4,000 and 5,000 parents, grandparents and expecting families to come through the doors over two days. The event runs Saturday, Sept. 19, and Sunday, Sept. 20, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 333 S. Franklin St., with kids 12 and under getting in free.

Nearly 50 local businesses are set up on the floor, alongside Tampa General Hospital, which signed on as the expo's title sponsor. The Children's Board of Hillsborough County, the Florida Department of Health, Pediatric Associates and BCBS Florida Blue are also among the major vendors, putting a heavy concentration of local healthcare and family-support resources under one roof for a family that might otherwise spend weeks chasing down that same information on their own.

What's actually happening on the floor

This isn't just a room of vendor tables. The schedule includes infant and toddler CPR classes, a baby-food tasting called the "Flavor Passport," a dedicated Toddler Zone and a Cool Zoo petting zoo for younger siblings who need somewhere to burn energy.

The centerpiece for a lot of families will likely be the Diaper Derby. Three lanes of competitors race a lifelike baby doll to a changing table, strip it down and redress it, diaper included, then race it back to the starting chair. First one done wins a prize from a sponsor. Second place goes to whoever finishes the re-change fastest. Organizers are also giving away a full stroller system each day to a grand-prize winner picked from that day's contestants.

Who's behind it

The expo comes from Allyson Lopez, a Tampa Bay event producer and mother of seven. Lopez has said she wanted the event to reach beyond first-time parents, pulling in partners, grandparents and families already juggling a toddler while expecting a second or third child.

Several of the vendors are local, Black- or women-owned brands built around maternal health, postpartum recovery and mental health support, an area organizers say tends to get less attention at bigger, more corporate baby expos. Some are debuting products or programs at the Tampa show for the first time.

What comes next

Lopez has three more Family Vibes Baby Expo dates lined up for 2027: one in St. Petersburg, one in Jacksonville, and another return trip to Tampa. If this weekend's turnout matches the 4,000-to-5,000 estimate, it would make the inaugural Tampa show one of the larger family-focused gatherings the Convention Center has hosted this year.
