Tampa has named Brad Tippin director of the City Planning Department. The job sits at the center of how the city guides growth, land use and redevelopment, so the appointment matters for residents watching how neighborhoods change over time.
What Tippin brings to the job
Tippin comes to Tampa after more than a decade with Pasco County, where he held development review posts. The city says he handled horizontal land development applications and also has extensive experience with land development code and comprehensive plan work.
Why the appointment matters
The city says Tippin was raised in South Tampa and has lived in the Tampa Bay area for more than fifty years. He holds degrees from USF and the University of North Florida and earned the Certified Public Manager designation. The Planning Department itself was launched in 2020 as part of the city’s Development and Economic Opportunity portfolio, which helps place this hire inside Tampa’s broader growth agenda.
